Countdown to Christmas lights switch-ons

Have you got musical talents? Are you a rapper, hip-hop enthusiast, opera singer, Motown vocalist?

The search is on for local talent to perform at each of our Christmas light switch on events.

The competition, ‘Time to Shine’, starts on Monday 7 October, to select that person.

Listeners of Ridings FM will be invited to upload their music via the radio’s website. Entries close Sunday 20 October. It is open to any age group.

The judges will select the top 10 entries for a people’s vote which will take place between Monday 28 October and Sunday 3 November.

Three winners will be announced. One each will be invited to perform at one of the Christmas lights switch-on – either in Wakefield, Pontefract or Castleford.

Cathedral Precinct

Wakefield’s Christmas lights will be switched on by Wakefield Trinity and councillors on Friday 15 November at 6pm, in the Cathedral Precinct.

Ridings FM will be hosting live entertainment from 4pm which will include live stage entertainment from local musicians and a ‘Time to Shine’ winner.

The city will also be home to a fantastic Christmas-themed market throughout the day from 10am, with children’s funfair rides and themed entertainment.

Pontefract

Local councillors will be joined by the Haribo Bear to switch-on the Pontefract Christmas lights on Monday 18 November at 6pm in the Market Place.

A Christmas market will run throughout the day from 12pm, and there will also be funfair rides and live entertainment on stage from a ‘Time to Shine’ winner from 4pm with Ridings FM hosting.

Castleford
